WINDY CITY TIES FRANCHISE-HIGH WITH SIXTH CONSECUTIVE VICTORY

The Windy City Bulls presented by BMO Harris Bank, the NBA G league affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, collected their season-high sixth consecutive victory with a 117-103 win over the Greensboro Swarm on Tuesday night at Sears Centre Arena.

Six Bulls players scored in double figures led by Mychal Mulder who tallied his fourth 20-point game and scored a season-high-tying 23 points in three quarters. CJ Fair posted 17 points, nine rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks, while Kaiser Gates added 16 points off the bench. Walt Lemon Jr. recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 assists and Rawle Alkins added a double-double of his own with 15 points and a career-high-tying 13 rebounds. Brandon Sampson pitched in with 15 points, two assists and three steals in his first start with Windy City.

Greensboro was without the services of Two-Way player JP Macura, but Charlotte Hornets assignment player, Dwayne Bacon, led the Swarm with a game-high 26 points on 10 made field goals. Greensboro’s second Two-Way player, Joe Chealey, scored 22 points and Jaylen Barford collected 13 points in a reserve role. Chinanu Onuaku recorded his second 20 rebound game of the season and pitched in with 20 rebounds to go with seven points and eight assists.

The Swarm scored the first basket of the game, but offense was limited at the start. The two teams began the game 1-for-10 from the floor, but Windy City found a rhythm and scored 10 consecutive points to force a Swarm timeout at the 8:02 mark. Following the stoppage, Greensboro returned the favor and scored 12 of the next 14 points to take a two-point lead. During the Swarm’s run, Windy City managed just one field goal in a three-minute span before a Fair layup stopped the drought. Greensboro didn’t lead for long as the Bulls rattled 11 straight points on four baskets by three different players. In total, Windy City set a season-high for first quarter points, shot 51 percent from the floor, 58 percent from three and led 35-27 at the end of the opening 12 minutes.

Windy City opened the second quarter by scoring the first five points and retaking a double-digit advantage. The Bulls went on to grab their largest lead of the night at 12, on a Thomas Wilder free throw attempt. The cushion didn’t last long as Greensboro battled back and made it one-possession game with 90 second remaining in the half. However, that’s as close as they would get as the Bulls closed the quarter on a 7-2 run. The Swarm shot 50 percent in the first half but trailed 64-56 at in the intermission.

The Swarm opened the second half on a 5-0 run to make it a 64-61 game, but Mulder gave Windy City some breathing room by extending the lead to seven on back-to-back three-pointers. Windy City’s largest lead of the third quarter was eight, but Greensboro eventually sliced the lead down to one with 2:43 left to play in the period. Despite making it an 80-79 game, the Swarm never regained the advantage as the Bulls closed the third quarter in similar fashion to the second. They used a mini 5-0 run and scored seven of the final nine points of the frame. Mulder scored 16 of his 23 points in the quarter and led the Bulls to 87-81 led heading into the final 12 minutes.

Alkins inserted himself in the fourth quarter, scoring the first eight points of the period. The individual run increased the lead to 14 with under seven and a half minutes remaining in the game. In total, he scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds in the period. Windy City enjoyed its largest lead of the night at 17 on a three-pointer by Gates as he was one of five players to crack the scoring column in the stanza. The Bulls shot 50 percent in the quarter, outscored Greensboro by eight and cruised to their fourth straight double-digit victory, 117-103.

The 117 points set a season-high and is the most the Bulls have scored since March 17 against Memphis. With the win, Windy City has tied their franchise-high with six consecutive victories, which was set last season from Feb. 27-Mar. 11.

Windy City will enjoy two days off before hitting the road on Friday night to take on the Erie BayHawks. Tip-off at Erie Insurance Arena is set for 6:00pm CT.
