WINDY CITY EXTENDS LOSING STREAK TO FOUR, FALL 111-91 TO RAPTORS 905
Hoffman Estates, IL – The Windy City Bulls, presented by BMO Harris Bank, the NBA G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, extended their losing streak to four with a 111-91 loss to the Raptors 905 on Sunday afternoon at Sears Centre Arena.
Windy City played shorthanded as they were without the services of Tyler Ulis, who was a late scratch. Four Bulls players tallied double figures led by CJ Fair who finished with a season-high 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals in 30 minutes of action. Rawle Alkins matched his career-high with 16 points and added six rebounds and three assists in a reserve role, while Mychal Mulder and V.J. Beachem tallied 15 points apiece.
Two-Way player, Chris Boucher led the 905 in scoring and tallied his fourth double-double of the season with 24 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. The Raptors second Two-Way player, Jordan Loyd, amassed 20 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Christian Watford scored 15 points of the bench. Deng Adel added 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists, with Kay Felder and Uche Ofoegbu pitching in with 12 points apiece.
The 905 led wire-to-wire and opened the contest making five of their first seven shots from the floor, including three three-pointers. The hot start offensively amounted to an early double-digit lead for the Raptors, which they maintained throughout the game. With under 90 seconds to play, the 905’s lead swelled to 15, their largest of the period. Fair led the way for Windy City and scored a team-high seven points in the period, but as a team, Windy City made just five field goals and shot 23 percent. The Bulls tallied their fewest first quarter points in a game this season and trailed 30-15 to the end of the opening 12 minutes.
Windy City’s offensive struggles persisted in the second as the 905 extended their lead to 21 on a bucket by Khadeem Lattin with under eight minutes to play in the half. The Raptors went on to lead by as many as 27 and followed their first quarter success with 52 percent shooting the second period. However, Windy City made a late a push and rattled off six consecutive points to trim to the deficit to 21 once more but couldn’t draw closer before halftime. Despite doubling their shooting percent from the first stanza, the Bulls trailed 58-37 at the intermission.
The 905 scored the opening basket of the second half, but the Bulls responded with back-to-back baskets by Fair, forcing a quick Raptors timeout in the first two minutes of the period. Windy City drew closer on three-point baskets by Beachem and Gates and eventually pulled within 13 with under two minutes to play in the period, but that is as close as they would get in the second half. The Bulls outscored the 905 by five point in the period, but the Raptors beat the buzzer on a three-point attempt and led 80-64 heading into the final 12 minutes.
The Bulls’ newest addition, Thomas Wilder, scored his first points as a member of Windy City with a transition dunk to open the fourth quarter. The basket pulled the Bulls to within 14, but the Raptors responded and used a quick 13-7 spurt to retake a 20-point advantage. The lead ballooned to as many as 25 and the 905 won convincingly, 111-91.
With the loss, Windy City drops to a season-low three games under .500 and are now 1-4. The 20-point defeat is the largest the 905 in franchise history and their largest margin of defeat since losing 124-103 on Jan. 31, 2018 to the Salt Lake City Stars.
Windy City will embark on a four-game road trip beginning Wednesday night against Memphis. The Bulls lost the only head-to-head matchup a season ago in double overtime, 121-120. Tip-off is set for 7:00pm CT at Landers Center.
