WINDY CITY DEFEATS WISCONSIN 124-101 FOR THEIR NINTH CONSECUTIVE VICTORY

The Windy City Bulls presented by BMO Harris Bank, the NBA G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, collected their ninth consecutive victory with a 124-101 win over the Wisconsin Herd on Friday night at Sears Centre Arena.

Seven Bulls players scored in double figures led by Rawle Alkins who scored a team-high 24 points off the bench on 11-of-15 shooting. Walt Lemon Jr. tallied 21 points and five assists, while Kaiser Gates posted a stat line of 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Thomas Wilder added 15 points and Ferrakohn Hall pitched in with 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

Shevon Thompson led all scorers and set career-highs with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Two-Way player, Trevon Duval poured in 20 points, while Travis Trice II totaled 17 points, four rebounds and six assists. Jaylen Morris, the Herd’s second Two-Way player collected 16 points, six rebounds and four assists and Michael Qualls had 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Wisconsin tallied the first points of the game and jumped out to an early 12-4 lead in the opening three and a half minutes of the contest. The Herd upped their lead to 10 on a pair of free throws, while Windy City shot just 33 percent upon reaching the first media timeout. The Bulls trailed by as many as a dozen in the quarter but took a 26-25 lead on a lay in by Fair that capped a 16-3 run. In a nearly six-minute span, Windy City turned a 12-point deficit into a six-point advantage. Despite the slow start offensively, the Bulls shot 51 percent in period and led 32-26 at end of the first 12 minutes.

After Windy City scored the opening basket of the second quarter, Wisconsin rattled off 12 of the next 17 points and made it a one-point game, which forced a Bulls timeout at the 8:16 mark. Following the stoppage, Windy posted a 9-3 spurt of their own to increase the lead to seven. With under three minutes to play in the half, the Herd tied the game at 52 and retook the lead on a driving layup by Duval, the first advantage since they led 25-24 late in the first quarter. However, their lead lasted a total of 40 seconds as Windy City went on a 7-1 run to close the half. Lemon Jr. made the final basket of the half with 6.2 seconds on the clock and the Bulls led 59-56 at the intermission.

Lemon Jr. and Hall asserted themselves in the third quarter as they accounted for 15 of the Bulls first 17 points to start the second half. Windy City maintained the lead throughout the quarter, but Wisconsin managed to pull within three on a couple occasions. Leading 86-83 with under five seconds remaining, Alkins corralled an inbounds pass, scored a basket and made it a five-point game with 1.3 ticks left. The Bulls outscored Wisconsin by two and led 88-83 heading into the final 12 minutes.

Windy City entered Friday’s game 12-1 when heading into the fourth quarter with the lead. The Bulls pulled away in the final period and it began with Alkins scoring on an old-fashioned three-point play. Leading by 12 with under 10 minutes in the game, the Bulls poured in four consecutive threes, which opened a 20-point lead. Windy City shot 48 percent in the frame and went on to lead by as many as 26. The Bulls outpaced Wisconsin by 18 in the quarter and 20 in the second half, which led to a 124-101 Windy City victory.

The 124 points scored set a new season-high, eclipsing their 123-point performance set on Jan. 5 against the Stockton Kings. With the win, Windy City is 5-1 against the Herd and have won five consecutive head-to-head matchups. The Bulls are 7-2 on Friday’s and 5-0 in the front end of back-to-backs this season.

Windy City wraps their fifth back-to-back of the season tomorrow night as they square off against the Greensboro Swarm. In the lone meeting this season, the Bulls won 117-103. Tip-off at Sears Centre Arena is set for 7:00pm CT.
