The Windy City Bulls, presented by BMO, the NBA G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, beat the Lakeland Magic 122-117 in overtime Friday night at NOW Arena. Windy City was led by Chicago Bulls Two-Way guard Carlik Jones with a season-high 46 points, 10 assists and four rebounds. Jones shot 16-for-25 from the field and 6-for-9 from three-point territory.
Both teams got out to a quick start, with Windy City taking a narrow one-point lead to end the first quarter. After the Magic scored 38 in the second quarter, the Bulls found themselves down 68-54 at the half.
Windy City went on a 17-2 run in the third quarter on the way to outscoring Lakeland 31-18 in the period. Both teams battled in the fourth quarter, with Lakeland hitting a jumper to tie the game and force overtime with 30 seconds left in the game.
This year, the G League introduced a Final Target Score. The game clock shuts off during overtime and seven points are added to the teams’ score at the end of the fourth quarter to create the Target Score. For tonight’s game, the target score was 122.
The Magic scored the first basket of overtime. But Windy City went on a 7-0 run, including a midrange jumper from forward Nick King to win the game.
King shot 10-for-15 from the field, scoring 28 points and grabbing six rebounds. Chicago Bulls Assignment Center Marko Simonović finished with 20 points and seven rebounds.
Lakeland was led by Orlando Magic Assignment guard R.J. Hampton, who scored 32 points off the bench. Magic Forward Kevon Harris chipped in 22 points off of 5-for-12 shooting from the field.
With the win, Windy City improved to 2-2 in the regular season, while Lakeland fell to 1-3.
The Bulls have a rematch with the Magic tomorrow, January 7 at NOW Arena. The game is slated to tip-off at 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on NBAGLeague.com.
