The Windy City Bulls, presented by BMO, the NBA G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, fell in overtime to the Capital City Go-Go 118-116 in Washington D.C. Friday night. Windy City guard Javon Freeman-Liberty led all scorers with 28 points to go along with five rebounds and five steals.
Windy City led for most of the fourth quarter, but a 15-2 run by Capital City in the final minutes put the Go-Go in command. Trailing by two with 27 seconds left, Freeman-Liberty got to the basket and scored a layup with 12 seconds remaining to tie the game at 111 and force overtime.
This season, the G League implemented a Final Target Score during overtime. Seven points are added to the teams’ tied score to create the Final Target Score, and the first team to reach that number wins. In this case, the Final Target Score was 118 because the Bulls and Go-Go ended regulation knotted at 111.
Former Chicago Bull and current Go-Go guard Kris Dunn knocked down the game-winning shot to give Capital City a 118-116 victory.
It was a game of runs as each team held double-digit leads throughout the night -- Windy City’s largest lead was 15 points while the Go-Go’s biggest advantage was 12 points.
Windy City guard Ethan Thompson chipped in 18 points and six rebounds, while forward Henri Drell came off the bench to add 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting.
Bulls guard Jeremy Pargo scored 16 points and dished out five assists. Windy City center Daniel Oturu came off the pine to provide 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting.
Capital City was led by Dunn’s 17 points off the bench. Former Windy City guard Devon Dotson also added 17 points for the Go-Go.
With the loss, Windy City fell to 5-8 and the Go-Go improved to 9-5 in the regular season.
Next, the Bulls travel to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for a game against the Wisconsin Herd on Friday, Feb. 3. Tip-off against the Herd is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on NBAGLeague.com.
